The Galt House name has been part of Louisville hospitality since the 1830s, when the original hotel hosted presidents, generals, and Charles Dickens himself. Come Derby season, the Galt House turns into something close to a second grandstand. Hats arrive by the trunkload, bourbon flows in the lobby bars, and the glass-vaulted Conservatory bridge glows above Fourth Street while the whole city hums with anticipation.
